End of the Default Retirement Age

Printer-friendly versionEmail to a friendPDF version

Today marks the end of the default retirement age (DRA) in the UK.

Employers will no longer be able to let employees because they have reached the state retirement age and means that from today employers cannot issue any notifications for compulsory retirement using the DRA procedure.

There is a small transitional period effective until October 2011 whereby if you have already notified an employee and their retirement date is before 1 October the DRA can be used.
