No Pre Budget Report this year

The government has ruled out an official pre-Budget Report for this year. However, is has been suggested that George Osbourne may make an autumn statement.

No official confirmation has been issued but one of the possible dates put forward for such a statement has been 29 November.

Pressed on the matter by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), HM Revenue and Customs confirmed that there will be no PBR but added that "there may be further statements, such as has already happened on Pensions and the Bank Levy".

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) is scheduled to produce its latest growth and borrowing forecast by 29 November.

So any autumn statement will probably be delivered in the days or weeks following the OBR's paper.
