As you probably know the HMRC's is changing the way it collects and processes PAYE / NI information. The latest round of changes comes under the header Real Time Information (RTI) and is now in pilot phase.

For employers that haven't heard of it yet the Universal Credit system is the new system that will deliver benefits from 2014 onwards. And for it to work the Government need upto date, accurate real time information about employees and their pay to calculate.

That Real Time Information (or RTI) will impact on your payroll processes and will increase the amount and frequency of imformation shared with HMRC. Real Time Information is required for the one million plus people who will be claiming Universal Credit by April 2014

If you haven't heard of it yet the chances are that you will be affected by it soon. RTI or real time information is HMRC's new system for exchanging live information about your employment details and will interact directly with you payroll providers software. 

In theory the RTI system promises many benefits including an end to the current P45's P46's, tax code updates and year end P35's. In a way it is a natural extension to the in-year filing system already in place.
