Small Businesses with fewer than 50 employees can continue reporting RTI just once a month until April 2014. The initial relaxation rules would have run until October 2013 but have been postponed to allow a complete tax year to run.
The actual reporting rule enables Businesses with weekly payrolls to report in real-time just once a month but no later than the end of the month they are reporting. This comes after HMRC received significant criticism from smaller employers regarding the difficulties implementing and maintaining Real Time Reports.
Independent audits found that a almost a quarter of 2000 small employers questioned described RTI as “frustrating” while almost half (46%) had encountered problems or were still trying to address issues with the Revenue. No doubt this extension is welcomed by many small Businesses who believe they are yet to reap the benefits of Real Time PAYE.
