… And a Happy New Year

Pack up the tree, throw out the used wrapping paper and relax, it’s all over for another year. Your bin is probably looking a bit full and you’ve probably gained an inch or two on the waistline, but these are problems to worry about next year.

Many of us, especially in the payroll field breathe a big sigh of relief once Christmas is over. All the stress of early pay days, Christmas bonuses and pay advances is over and we can take it relatively easy for the next couple of months with no payroll abnormalities until year end in April.

It is nice to think that January, February and March should be quite “run of the mill” and stress free, but don’t be caught out too soon.

New Year’s Day is a bank holiday and most of us will have taken this into account when planning payroll for the Christmas period. In fact, it won’t affect most of us other than we get an extra day off (yay!) but if you pay your employees on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd of the month you will need to adjust the day you send your BACS accordingly so that the payments hit your employees’ accounts on time.

Here’s to 2015, let’s hope it’s a good one!
