Excellent news this week for the payroll profession. The Institute of Payroll Professionals has been awarded Chartered Status. The Privy Council granted the approval on the 10th November and it is likely to become effective within a couple of weeks.

This is a superb boost for the payroll profession in the UK.

Mr Lindsay Melvin, Chief Executive of the IPP, said: We are absolutely delighted that our bid for Chartered Status has been approved by the Privy Council. I hope that by accomplishing this, it will further help in raising the profile of payroll as a profession, and not just a function that 'pushes a button once a month / week'.

Attaining Chartered Status provides the ideal opportunity for the Institute to demonstrate the valuable contributions that payroll professionals provide not only within business but also to UK society as a whole. I hope that this achievement finally gives the payroll industry the recognition and respect it deserves.
