With all the excitement in the last few days around England winning the cricket world cup in the super over and the Wimbledon finals, you may have missed another important event. One that may have a big impact on your business.

What am I talking about?

The draft legislation setting out the rules governing IR35 workers in the private sector has been published.

No great fanfare though, HMRC casually released the draft legislation and related documents on 11 July via the ‘Latest Documents’ portal on the HMRC pages of gov.uk. Sneaky.

It’s time to get your business ready for the changes

This should now concentrate the minds of all businesses engaging off payroll workers. My previous blog suggested that planning should start without delay to ensure full compliance. That advice is more important than ever. Don’t delay.

The consultation process changed little from the initial proposals set out by HMRC however there is still much work to be done by HMRC to get the Check Employment Status Toll (CEST) fit and ready for engagers and workers, alike, to assess employment status.

HMRC hope to get CEST ready by the end of the year, this may be too late for some.

Please contact me on 03331 123456 for further information on off payroll working but also, and more importantly, information on assessing employment status for such workers
